MANXDNA

Manx Y-DNA Study

How the test results will be used

As different sets of Manx surname Y-DNA results are received they will be incorporated into a project database which will be analysed to establish any common genetic patterns across the population of Manx men included.

This analysis will consider:

Genetic distances between individuals and assessments of the time to a single most recent common ancestor (TMRCA)
Haplogroup results and predictions
Identification of close genetic connections with other non-Manx males in the public databases - in order to see where individual Manx families might have come from originally before they lived on the Isle of Man

All results will be be anonymous in that the name and details of the original person tested will only be known to the project coordinator, but the parent Manx family name associated with those results will be identified.

The subset of results collected through testing at FTDNA can be seen here.

The full analysis of results, once available can be seen here
